DEVON DECORT Devon Decort graduated from Bristow Academy in 1999. He now flies for Sundance Helicopters in Las Vegas. "After graduating Bristow Academy I saved up money and hour built in a JetRanger. Once I hit 500 TT I applied for an ENG job from Pompano Helicopters in Florida. The next thing I knew I was ferrying an ENG Jetranger to Mobile, AL where I stayed for a year and a half. I then asked for and got a transfer to Houston, TX for about another 6 months. Next I got hired by Helicopters Inc. out of St. Louis. This was a much bigger ENG contract with a brand new JetRanger flying for a #7 news market in Atlanta, GA. That's where I got my LongRanger checkout as well. So I was basically lucky and at 500 hours TT started flying JetRangers for news. I also did the Bell Training courses in Texas which was key because it lowered insurance costs for my employers. After a year in Atlanta, GA I took a job with Sundance Helicopters. I'm closer to my family and have many opportunities to move up to film flying, tv flying, news, mountain training, Nellis Range flying (Area 51 and stuff like that), fire contracts, sling loads, etc... I am now closing in on 3000 hours TT, flying Part 91, 135, and news...with over 1900 hours in Bells, and almost 900 hours in AStars." |
