The Certified Flight Instructor – Instrument rating (commonly referred to as the CFII) allows an instructor to provide instrument instruction. This qualification will make a graduate more employable as an instructor because it will allow them to teach on all VFR and IFR courses. A few years ago FAA regulations were changed to require all commercial pilot applicants to have at least 10 hours of instrument flight training. This greatly increased the number of students who opted to continue and obtain the Instrument rating. As a result flight schools have found it necessary to hire a higher percentage of CFII instructors and will generally favor a job applicant with this additional qualification.
