Bristow Academy's Turbine Transition course is designed to introduce a pilot to larger turbine powered helicopters and the challenges associated with flying a turbine engine aircraft. Ground instruction includes information on turbine helicopters, engines, and their systems. Flight instruction includes maximum performance takeoffs, autorotations, off airport maneuvers, and emergency procedures.
The course is taught on the Bell 206 JetRanger BIII helicopter.
Bristow Academy requires students to hold at least a PPL(H) before taking this transition course.
Bristow Academy's career oriented students should take careful consideration before deciding to take this transition course. While the hours from this program can count towards CPL(H) requirements if taken in the correct sequence, 5 hours of turbine time will not necessarily make a pilot more employable for an entry-level commercial position. A pilot with 1,000 hours PIC piston-engine helicopter flight time will receive transition training from the commercial company they find employment with.
