Students who have passed the JAR-FCL ATPL(H) examinations are credited with the above theory requirements. However, the IR(H) course must be completed and applied for within 3-years of passing the last ATPL(H) exam.
At this time Bristow Academy is not able to provide JAA IR(H) theory courses to those pilots who have only JAA CPL(H) theory examination passes.

- Complete a minimum of 15 hours of instrument instruction (including the 170A Flight Test) of which 5 hours may be in a FNPT 1 or 10 hours in a FNPT 2 or Flight Simulator. The Bristow Academy Instrument Training School currently operates an FNPT1.

Re-Validation
An IR(H) re-validation will normally be combined with the relevant type rating re-validation requirements by proficiency check.
Single engine and multi engine instrument rating privileges are separate and must be re-validated separately.
IR(H) privileges are also type specific.
Renewal
The renewal requirements for a JAA IR(H) are based upon the time that has elapsed since the rating expired. The expiration date is determined by the date of expiry of the most recent IR(H) proficiency check entered on the license. However, if IR privileges have been exercised on another type of aircraft (UK/JAR IR(A), or ICAO license (airplanes or helicopters), or under UK military IR qualification (airplane or helicopter), the renewal requirement will be based on the expiry date of that IR.
Q. Has your IR(H) expired less than 5 years?
A. You must pass an IR(H) proficiency check with an authorized examiner.
Q. Has your IR(H) expired by more than 5 years, but less than 7 years?
